Ted Williams – Color Field
18″ x 14″, acrylic, black shadow-box frame. “Color Field – Ted Williams” is on exhibit in the SAFE AT HOME show at the Bedford Gallery, Walnut Creek, in California. It is a (Inter)National Survey of Baseball art and runs from April 10 to June 12. Please contact Christine Koppes, Assistant to the Curator, 925-295-1423, or at Koppes@bedfordgallery.org for more information about the show and/or my painting.
Ted Williams is a favourite ballplayer of mine. I painted him in vibrant colours that reminded me of 1960 pop-art to signify that year in which he played for the last time. In the book Ted Williams: A Tribute by Jim Prime and Bill Nowlin, 1997 by Masterspress, page 121, I wrote of my admiration of Williams and why I enjoy painting his image. “I have always admired Ted Williams for his determination, his passion, and for his honesty when evaluating other ballplayers.”
I am very pleased with the Questions and Answers Interview with Benjamin Blackburn at Art from the Sidelines a sample of which is below:
“Interview with Jennifer Ettinger, January, 2016
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given?
To do my best. My father always told me that – even if it wasn’t a worthy result, it was always a worthy effort he said if I did my best. Other advice: To “just start” and to “not worry about results” but to enjoy the exploration and experimentation of learning how to do one’s art. And to be brave and not care about what others think but only what you know is true in your heart.”
London Drugs – “Local Inspirations”
I am very excited about an exhibition of selected reproductions of my paintings at London Drugs in Gibsons, at their Photo Department, as part of their “Local Inspirations” series.
The show is curated by Mariann and continues until February 16, 2016. Reproduced images are:
- Owl – “Who?!”
- “Cassius Clay” – boxing
- Dog – “Opal”
- Horse – “Shades of Grey”
- “Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium”
- Hockey – “Practice”
- Horses – “The Herd”
- Dogs – “Zack and Gus”
- Horse – “The Bay”, and
- French Bulldog – “Babe”
In many cases, the prints are larger than the original paintings.
Thank you to the worker bees at London Drugs in the Photo Department and especially to Manager Mariann who printed off and foam-cored the backs of the bamboo papered images and printed the “Fungus” images on canvas.
Also on display at London Drugs are the amazingly reproduced purses, coasters and puzzles that London Drugs does for me using my original artwork of commissioned paintings as well as self-motivated paintings.
