painting of Mickey Mantel

Mickey Mantle, 12″ x 10″, acrylic, sold

One of 20 New York Yankee paintings in process. A New York Yankees fan from Iowa commissioned me to a three-year painting project that has me painting 20 of the great New York Yankees from the early 1900s to present day players, including Mickey Mantle (image on left), Wee Willie Keeler, Reggie Jackson, Babe Ruth and Derek Jeter.

16" x 20", acrylic, framed, sold. Hole 18 at Merion, 1950 US Open.

Ben Hogan, 16″ x 20″, acrylic, framed, sold. Hole 18 at Merion, 1950 US Open.

The “Ben Hogan” fan commissioned me to paint this important golf moment for an art auction at a golf course in Texas.

painting of cassius clay in triumph over Sonny Liston, 1964.

Cassius Clay, 36″ x 36″, acrylic, sold. Cassius Clay in triumph over Sonny Liston, 1964.

The boxing fan who commissioned me to paint this iconic portrait of Cassius Clay in triumph over Sonny Liston was very pleased with the resulting portrait.  The background has over 40 layers of ultramarine blue, inter-mixed with burnt sienna washes.  The final image glows with light and energy that suits the amazing energy evoked by “Cassius Clay”.
